How you can Faithfully Steward God's Resources
and partner with us
to fulfill our mission in the Florida Keys and Beyond
STEWARDSHIP, GIVING AND TITHING
STEWARDSHIP simply means managing resources. It actually comes from a time when people managed pig sties for an employer. They were "sty wardens” or “stewards.” Stewardship is a spiritual framework through which we manage resources. At its heart, Christian stewardship affirms that all we have is from God, and He invites us to manage them well in order to bring glory to Him, build His Kingdom and grow in our faith.
GIVING is a Spiritual Discipline. Like prayer, reading the Bible, worship and serving others, giving is a discipline that helps us grow to be more like Jesus. It teaches us to be generous and to give from a cheerful heart. Consider this passage from God’s Word:
You must each decide in your heart how much to give.
And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure.
“For God loves a person to be a cheerful giver.”
And God will generously provide all you need.
Then you will always have everything you need
and plenty left over to share with others. As the Scriptures say,
“They share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”
2 Corinthians 9:7-9
In fact, the actual translation for “cheerful” is “hilarious!” Giving is always a reflection of our heart posture toward God and those whom He asks us to serve.
TITHING is a simple term that refers to 10%. Even before tithing was commanded by God, Abram gave the priest 10% of what he earned as a simple expression of gratitude for God’s blessing and care.(Genesis 14:20) Followers of Jesus embrace tithing as a faithful expression of saying thank you for Jesus’ salvation, grace and mercy.
